  • An exercised dog makes for a calmer dog. Always make sure your dog is getting the daily recommended amount of exercise for its breed.
  • Dogs depend on routine. Lack of routine causes undue anxiety. Try your best to keep your dog in a daily routine including; feeding times, walk times, bed time and personal time with you.
  • Make sure your dog has his own personal space in your home. Whether it is a bed or blanket, allow your dog to have "his place" to go to when he wants to be left alone. This is especially important if young children are in the home.
  • Be a respectful dog owner and keep your dog on a leash. A large percentage of our population is afraid of dogs and seeing a dog off leash can cause real anxiety for some. You may feel your dog is well behaved, but that other person should not need to think about you and your dog.
  • Always pick up your dog’s waste in public areas. Make the effort to use compostable bags. Putting your dog's waste in a plastic bag will guarantee it will last a lot longer on this earth than you or your dog.
  • Dogs that stay at home alone during your day can tend to become bored. This can lead to mischief and destruction of your personal property. Take the time to leave some things for your dog to do while you are gone. A frozen Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter, some background music, and puzzle treat toys can keep your dog busy while you are away.
  • You are what you eat and so is your dog. Just as we need to be careful to avoid unhealthy foods, the same is true for your dog. Feed your dog by-product and preservative free dog food. This will cut down on your pet's waste and help your dog live a long, healthy life.
  • Topical flea remedies can put undue stress on your dog's immune system. Brewer’s yeast and garlic powder supplements are a natural alternative to keep fleas off your dog.
